Join me on a snowy, high-elevation, hike in Rocky Mountain National Park to search for and photograph American Pika! The main goal of this outing was to use Nikon’s Auto-capture feature to photograph a wide angle scene with a Pika in it. In addition to that I spent nearly 7 hours crawling around a snow-covered talus field high in the mountains photographing and capturing video of these adorable critters. I started nearly 2 hours before sunrise and had roughly 3 miles to hike in plus over 1,000 feet of elevation gain to cover. In the high altitude over 10,000 feet I struggled to catch my breath but kept a slow pace and continued to push and eventually got there. I hope you can sense the excitement and joy I had on this photography adventure, it was one of my favorite experiences in quite some time with a camera in hand. The remote wilderness brought such peace and relaxation to me as well as the excitement of trying to capture wildlife in a creative way. From the time I left my van until I returned I was out in the field for nearly 10 hours. See you all on the next one!
