PGA Tour REVEALS Their Plan To Battle LIV Golf..

Welcome back to Golf District. Here’s some news about PGA Tour and LIV. The PGA Tour reportedly might consider giving up its non-profit status to put itself in a better financial position to battle the big-money Saudi-backed LIV Invitational Series, a move supported by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy. The subject was one of the main talking points at a meeting of the PGA Tour's top players called and hosted by Woods on Tuesday to discuss the LIV threat and a plan of action, according to the Fire Pit Collective.

A component of the plan called for the PGA Tour to give up its non-profit status, which would force it to pay taxes but give it far more leeway in how it runs its business, including the ability to recruit private investors and equity companies. The Fire Pit Collective said that Woods and McIlroy both endorsed such a move. The participants in the meeting in Delaware, where the BMW Championship is being hosted at the Wilmington Country Club, also discussed ideas for an 18-tournament series that would include 60 of the best golfers competing for $US20 million ($A29 million) in prize money. In response to the LIV Series, which is paying $US25 million ($A36 million) rewards, the PGA Tour has already increased payouts at many events. The plan, according to the Fire Pit Collective, would be a no-cut format similar to LIV. A response to the LIV threat comes with reports the renegade series is about to announce seven new player signings immediately after the FedEx Cup playoffs conclude with the Tour Championship next week in Atlanta. In related news, Golf’s biggest name, Tiger Woods, is set to meet with fellow PGA Tour players about the continued threat presented by the all-new LIV Golf series. According to Fire Pit Collective and ESPN, Woods will headline Tuesday's players meeting in Wilmington, Delaware, where the second of three FedEx Cup playoff tournaments kicks off on Thursday. An anonymous PGA Tour player told ESPN: “This is a meeting to get the top 20 players in the world on the same page about how we can continue to make the PGA Tour the best product in professional golf. .”
