Peggy Lee was mad about Dave Barbour.
Although they had been divorced for a year when this newly uncovered performance of Noël Coward’s “Mad About the Boy” was recorded, they remained deeply connected. Dave was Peggy’s musical partner, the father of their daughter Nicki, and, as she would often say, the love of her life.
Captured on Peggy’s personal reel-to-reel recorder during an impromptu living room jam session in 1952, this intimate performance marks a song she never recorded commercially and never included in her live repertoire.
The personal nature of the recording inspired an equally personal visualizer, created from rare and previously unseen home movie footage and photographs, including a still from Peggy and Dave’s 1943 wedding, captured moments after their first kiss as husband and wife.
Often standing just outside the spotlight that followed Peggy throughout her career, Dave Barbour played an indispensable role in both her life and music. This visualizer offers him a moment in the light of his own.
