Quincy was just shy of his 28th birthday when he started collaborating with a 40-year-old Peggy. Beginning with her iconic 1961 Basin Street East engagements, he went on to conduct and arrange a number of her albums. They also wrote multiple songs together, including "Happy Feet," "Train Blues," "LA Blues," and "New York City Blues." Their collaboration represented a perfect blend of artistic minds that transcended genre and created timeless musical moments.

Peggy Lee co-wrote the eponymous theme of the 1954 film Johnny Guitar with Victor Young, âone of the most prolific and celebrated composers of film musicâ (Songwriters Hall of Fame).
Directed by Nicholas Ray and starring Joan Crawford, the movie was released in August and went on to became a cult classic. As part of the promotion earlier in the summer, Peggy Lee performed the song for a live television broadcast (recorded on 16mm kinescope).
It had been three years since her divorce from the man she always described as the love of her life, jazz guitar player, conductor and arranger Dave Barbour.
