Peggy Lee co-wrote the eponymous theme of the 1954 film Johnny Guitar with Victor Young, āone of the most prolific and celebrated composers of film musicā (Songwriters Hall of Fame).
Directed by Nicholas Ray and starring Joan Crawford, the movie was released in August and went on to became a cult classic. As part of the promotion earlier in the summer, Peggy Lee performed the song for a live television broadcast (recorded on 16mm kinescope).
It had been three years since her divorce from the man she always described as the love of her life, jazz guitar player, conductor and arranger Dave Barbour.
