Love, You Didnt Do Right By Me was written by @IrvingBerlin for the film White Christmas - a role Peggy Lee was originally intended to play. According to Variety (March 1953), Paramount wanted Peggy Lee for White Christmas, but Jack Warner was too mad at Mike Curtiz to let her go.
Director Michael Curtiz had worked with Peggy on The Jazz Singer (1952) before his split with Warner Brothers. When Peggy couldnt be loaned out for White Christmas, Rosemary Clooney was cast in what would have been Peggyâs role.
This performance at the Hollywood Bowl (from a live telecast of The Colgate Comedy Hour airing September 19, 1954, NBC) promoted the Decca Records soundtrack album Selections From Irving Berlins White Christmas, featuring Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, and Peggy Lee.
While Rosemary Clooney appeared in the Paramount film, her Columbia Records contract meant she wasnt on the Decca release - opening the door for Peggy Lee to record the songs she was originally meant to sing on screen.
