The why and how to create, from bare soil, a visually pleasing native plant garden that attracts butterflies by providing their essentials, namely caterpillar food plants and nectar plants for the adults. The presentation is illustrated with close-up life stages photos of common butterflies and the plants they depend on for foliage and nectar rich flowers.
Ilse has worked for 30 years as a Research Chemist in Medicinal Chemistry at the Upjohn Co. Since then she has focused her energies into becoming an amateur naturalist with special interest in native plants, insects, and birds and their relationships in the natural world. She has given many presentations on butterfly conservation to a variety of organizations including garden clubs, master gardeners, libraries, environmental organizations and classrooms in area schools. Ilse holds a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Kalamazoo College and an MS in Organic Chemistry from UCLA. Monarchwatch.org
