“My Love” was recorded during the sessions for Red Rose Speedway, Wings’ second album. The track was cut at Abbey Road Studios in London in January 1973, near the end of the album’s recording. For this song, Paul played a Fender Rhodes electric piano, while Denny Laine handled the bass guitar.

Paul brought in Richard Hewson (who had previously worked with him on Beatles projects to arrange the orchestral parts). The session featured a 50-piece orchestra, and rather than recording the backing track first and overdubbing later, Paul decided to record the band and orchestra live together. This was unusual at the time, since session musicians were paid by the hour, but Paul wanted to capture what he called “a certain feeling.”

Hewson recalled hiring “the best jazz musicians I knew … They had this particular warm sound.” Around 20 takes were recorded over the course of three hours, leaving the orchestra exhausted. Eventually, the musicians assured Paul that their performance could not be improved.
