Just a heads up- this one is a little mushy, guys.
This piece is an anniversary present, as well as a marriage proposal, to my wonderful girlfriend of five years.
The Little Mermaid is her all-time favorite childhood movie, and holds a place in her heart that is as near and dear to her as Sonic the Hedgehog is to me. So it is only fitting that I arrange her favorite song from her favorite movie as a present to her.
Super Mario Galaxy is one of our shared favorite games. Everything from the gameplay, to the space theme, to the wonderfully composed music... This is just a special game for us both. So to continue with my theme of arranging video game music, or at least music in a game-themed style, I've chosen to do this Disney-Nintendo hybrid piece.
It could be argued that a "galaxy arrangement" is essentially just an orchestral arrangement. To which, I cannot really contest. However, I tried to emulate many of the rhythms and stylistic sounds that are a little more reminiscent of Galaxy's music, much of which can be heard in the counter melodies and rhythmic string lines. It certainly isn't perfect, but I feel like it's a rather strong attempt on my part to branch out from my normal sound-set and try something new. I may consider doing similar arrangements in the future as well.
At any rate, thanks for taking the time to read all this, and to sit through such a mushy tune and video. And let me know what you thought of the piece- I know it's a bit different than my normal compositions and arrangements, but I'd love to hear some feedback from my listeners on this one.
