Time for a new dungeon...and oh lord does the effects of EX Mode +4 really turn this place into a massive difficulty spike. Take the first fight you'll run into after getting a Medicine 1 or Ammo +6 from the first chest. You'll run into a red snake and several smaller snakes. They're only ever concerned about trying to bite Aya with the smaller snakes being more aggressive about it. Taking a hit will very likely poison Aya, causing her to take poison damage every so often (indicated by a purple damage number). This can kill Aya so you need to either cleanse it with a Cure-P quickly or be ready to heal hp often. If you're running full blast past them as they're approaching, you can dodge their bite with surprising frequency.
So, what's the real issue here? They have absurd defenses. Everything in this dungeon does actually. So much so that if you're using ANYTHING other than the M16A1 rifle, you are doing very low single digit damage most likely and would easily burn through whatever supply of bullets you have available before you even get close to the main boss of this area.
After the snakes are kaput, it's a couple screens and you should be right next to a chest when you spawn in. This chest contains one of two handguns, the P8 or M9. The M9 is just a slightly worse M1911A1, but the P8 actually has no RoF ability and enough attack that if you throw any offense boosters and your gained bp into it, you can do some surprisingly decent damage.
There's another chest to the northeast with either a Tool or Ammo +15, but you'll have to drop a few crows to get to it. Only tries to peck Aya so their biggest danger can end up being lots of them in a single fight. They also drop something called Junk. Seems useless, but there is a reason to collect it so we'll revisit this later when I don't have to unload Junk every minute.
From this screen, go northwest near where the crows were to find a save point and a small room. In this small room is a Zoo Key & Sp Vest 1. If you move the bed, you can use the Zoo Key to unlock a cabinet with a M203 grenade launcher. This weapon type is roughly around a rifle in terms of ATB recharge and firing rate. No RoF on this weapon is good, but the Explosive Rounds ability on it is questionable. This makes Aya's bullets do fire damage. If an enemy's weak to fire, they'll do more damage. If they're resistant to it like all the snakes around here are? They'll do far less.
After exiting the room and saving, start moving clockwise around the screen. You'll be in front of another door that's guarded by a pair of mutant monkeys. These creatures can either try walking up to Aya to claw her or stand still and toss their boomerang arm at her. For the latter, if you start running away the moment one is priming to launch their arm, the attack will miss.
They door they were guarding leads into a rainforest area where some of those small snakes attack (in a very narrow area I might add!). There's a Cure-P and Defense +1 or +2 here.
Back outside, sticking to the outside of screens and going clockwise will bring you to an area just to the north of the Tool or Ammo clip box and another new enemy, the plant. They can attack with their very very long vines or spit out some poison clouds from their behind. Their vines are very hard to dodge consistently while the poison clouds can be dodged...if you're not fighting in a tight arena with three of them at once like I was here.
From the plant fight, you can go north to a screen with a big group of red snakes to fight and two chests, one with Ammo +15, the other with a Medicine 2 or Ammo +15. The exit to the north leads to a fork in the road, another fight, and an exit in the northwest that leads to the amphitheater where everyone is, Eve included.
Eve's big plan? If igniting random people wasn't amusing enough, how about turning the entire audience into one big mass of slime? Aya heads backstage with her ghost girl providing directions only for Eve to make a quick getaway.
If you backtrack south towards where you saw a charred corpse, you can go west past it to another screen. Head up the stairs and look for two hidden chests (Ammo +15 or Tool in one, Revive in the other), then go north some more to find a save point and a chest...and an angry bear.
The angry bear can send a pair of electrical currents towards Aya or try waltzing up to claw her. If it tries for the latter, there's another attack it can do where it gets up on its hind legs and tries to body slam Aya. This you can only really dodge by moving to the side when it goes for the attack.
After being thankful for getting that Revive once the bear goes down, there's an Ammo +15 or Medicine 2 in the chest. Save afterwards.
More next time!
