In Paper Mario, the Star Beam has a lesser-known effect of removing status effects from enemies. For example, if a Magikoopa powers up any other enemy with something such as transparency, using Star Beam will remove the status from all enemies. If Koopatrol or Hyper Goombas or other similar enemies power themselves up for a stronger attack, Star Beam can remove it.
There is a bit of a visual error here, though, as one of the Koopatrol enemies does not lose their powered-up attack, but does lose their rainbow effect and their Magikoopa effect. After losing both of those, the Koopatrol continues to animate until some time passes, during which they start to visually walk in place and the powered-up attack resumes on the next turn with the wrong animation.
