Using scraps of Pallet Wood that were left over from furniture builds they were sanded square on the Makita Belt Sander (using it as a bench sander) and then glues together to create the blank.
Turning was all nice and easy no real issues with tear out with a 10mm hole drilled to sit the test tube in.
Everything was sanded to 600 grit and finished off with Briwax Dar Oak wax to help fill any cracks and give it that very dated look.
