This week, a beginner's guide to constructing and painting your first resin figure - starting off with the completing face.

This was filmed back in 2015 and shows me assembling and painting Nuts Planet's comic-like SD resin figure of a D.A.K. or Afrika Korps figurine and base (Ref: NP-001). These excellent miniatures are available from http://historexagents.com, who kindly supplied the sample.

This was actually the first time I used Lifecolor's excellent acrylics for a figure and specifically their flesh painting set. My technique has changed over the years, but you can see me blend them wet, then add mid tones and highlights and then rework the shadows further, before letting the paint coats dry and proceeding with dry brush blending or feathering of more precise highlights.

These paints give very subtle effects, especially when allowed to dry between the later coats.

You can get Lifecolor paint sets from http://www.airbrushes.com, but do note that the packaging has been updated from the one in the video.

As always with Scale War Machines, this is a simple, accessible and non-elitist step-by-step video guide to painting figures' faces aimed at everyday figure painting and my background is armour modelling.

I hope you enjoy this and that it inspires you to try your hand at a larger scale resin bust or figurine using acrylics.
