I discuss the various beliefs and practices from pagan antiquity that had an influence on the development of monothesitic religion - including pagan festivals, Platonism, Stoicism, Egyptian religion (including Atenism), Zoroastrianism, the mysteries of the Hieros Gamos and more.
The appropriation of certain pagan elements by Christianity is often raised around Christmas by those who have an axe to grind with the church. However, in this video I hope to demonstrate that understanding the pagan origins of certain monotheistic beliefs (and the real reasons monotheism set itself apart from paganism) need not undermine monotheistic belief, but can enrich it and give it permission to evolve into the future.
