Pachymantis sp. is a rare species of boxer mantis notable for the broad spikes on their back. Like other boxers they signal with their arms which feature bright red and stark black on the reflective inner surface. Females' wings are too short for flight but are vibrant green. I feel very lucky to have documented this species after raising to adult. The female laid her first ootheca last night only hours after being bred. I'm hopeful I can sustain a culture to enjoy them for many generations to come.
