P-47s were used as a fighter-bomber in WWII. Although it lacked dive brakes, it was used as a dive bomber where it attacked targets from around an 8,000 foot altitude and released their 500 lbs bombs from a dive angle between 40 and 60 degrees at a 3,000 foot altitude. Dive bombing was used to destroy tank and armored vehicles, hardened pillboxes, bridges, and cutting rail lines. They were very effective in these attacks.
