US combat personnel and the US public were surveyed as to what should be done with Germany and Japan at the end of WWII. Many thought wee should assist in reconstruction and provide food aid. Many others thought the countries should be annihilated. We will look at these survey responses and also address if hatred of the enemy was a factor in combat motivation.
