Triathletes, take note: these two swimming drills are especially great for open water swimming. Whether you are training for your first triathlon, swimming the English Channel, or are a seasoned open water swimmer, these drills will be great for you to improve your technique. (These tips are also great for anytime you’ll be wearing a wetsuit!)
Demonstrating in the flip-turn-free environment of the Endless Pools Fastlane®, Coach Newsome experiments with two arm positions. He contrasts the Finger Trail drill with
an Open-Elbow drill.
The former uses the classical high-elbow position, but the latter can be more advantageous in preventing drag in choppy waters and avoiding shoulder fatigue in a restrictive wetsuit.
Note: beginning around the 3:20 mark, the water distorts the proportional size of the Endless Pools Fastlane® swim-current generator. The Fastlane unit measures just 34" tall, 18" deep, and 29" wide.
