The annual Eastern Economic Forum is scheduled to run throughout this week in Vladivostok and is expected to serve as a key venue for discussions involving ties among the two Koreas and Russia.
For more, we're joined today by Andrew Millard, Head of Department at the Department of International Relations at Changwon National University.
1. Attention is now on whether North Korean leader Kim Jong-un will be at the event, with some observers saying the forum could pave the way for a North Korea-Russia summit. What's your take on this?
2. At the same time, the forum could give South Korea and Russia a chance to improve relations, especially since they have been strained since the Ukraine war began. How might ties between Seoul and Moscow be addressed at the forum?
3. Cooperation with Russia is also crucial to the Lee administration’s plans to develop the Arctic shipping route, one of its key priorities. How likely is it that this project will progress?
4. South Korea, the U.S. and Japan are set to carry out military exercises near Jeju-do Island next week. This comes after the U.S. scaled back annual drills with Korea, and some say continuing the trilateral exercise could be seen as a sign of Washington's commitment to trilateral security cooperation to counter China. What's your take on this?

Today, we have some K-pop news about a boy group, a girl group and a K-movie that has started off strong domestically. What will we start with?
ENHYPENs eighth mini album, THE SIN : BLISS, has topped the Billboard 200, marking the groups first No. 1 on the albums chart since their debut in 2020.
ENHYPEN first entered the Billboard 200 in 2021 with BORDER : CARNIVAL and have since placed a total of 10 albums on the chart. The group previously reached a career-high No. 2 with both ROMANCE : UNTOLD and THE SIN : VANISH, before finally claiming the top spot with THE SIN : BLISS.
Other K-pop acts to have topped the Billboard 200 include BTS, BLACKPINK, NewJeans, Stray Kids and TWICE, just to name a few. The original soundtrack for Netflixs animated film KPop Demon Hunters has also topped the chart in the past but today we celebrate ENHYPEN , congratulations boys.
Now, moving onto some girl group news, who are we talking about today?
IVEs music video for I AM, the lead track from the groups first full-length album, Ive IVE , surpassed 400 million views on YouTube on Sunday. The music video has drawn widespread attention since its release, ranking No. 1 on YouTube Koreas list of the most popular music videos of 2023 due to visually capturing the song’s message of self-confidence.
I AM has also achieved a Perfect All-Kill, meaning the song reached No. 1 across all major real-time, daily, and weekly music charts in South Korea simultaneously, while also earning nine wins on music shows.
It is one of IVE’s signature hits, along with Love Dive, and After Like.
I AM isnt just doing well domestically but has also found success in the global music market, spending 33 consecutive weeks on Billboard’s Global Excl. U.S. chart and 22 consecutive weeks on the Global 200.
And finally, a great start for a newly released K-film at the box office, right?
The Journey to Gyeongju has stayed at No. 1 at the Korean film box office for five consecutive days since its release on August 26, marking a strong opening-week performance. A lot of buzz around the movie was generated by word of mouth from moviegoers and critics centering on the on-screen family bonds and a strong cast who include, Lee Jung-eun , Gong Hyo-jin and Park So-dam .
The Journey to Gyeongju is a family revenge drama about a mother and her three daughters who set out on a journey to avenge the death of the mothers fourth daughter.
Impressively, according to data from the Korean Film Council’s integrated box office system, The Journey to Gyeongju ranked No. 1 among Korean films during its opening week despite strong competition from foreign films including The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Right now, a band of heavy rain is developing across the central regions.
The heaviest rain will focus on Chungcheongnam-do Province, where heavy rain advisories are in place.
In terms of how much rain, parts of Chungcheongnam-do Province could see more than 100 millimeters, while the capital area could see up to 60 millimeters.
Tomorrow, the southern regions will stay hot and muggy, with scattered showers of 5 to 40 millimeters possible in the afternoon.
The rain has taken the edge off the heat in the central regions, but it still feels hot and muggy down south.
Hot and humid air is moving in from the south, keeping heat wave and tropical night alerts in place across parts of the southern regions.
Rain across the central regions will mostly taper off by tomorrow morning.
And with cooler air moving in from the north, the heat will ease across the central regions.

Yes, lets start with ENHYPEN . The boy group’s eighth mini album, THE SIN:BLISS, has officially become a double-million seller. According to Hanteo Chart, South Korea’s real-time music sales tracking platform, THE SIN : BLISS sold over 2-million copies as of this mid-week.
On Monday, we reported that only days after the albums release it sold a million records. And just less than 5 days after that, it has sold another million showing ENHYPENs immense popularity. This is now ENHYPEN’s fifth album to surpass two million copies in sales, following ORANGE BLOOD, ROMANCE:UNTOLD, DESIRE:UNLEASH,. and THE SIN:VANISH.
THE SIN:BLISS is the group’s first release since reorganising as a six-member act and has also made a strong start in Japan, selling more than 165-thousand copies on its first day and taking the No. 1 spot on Oricon’s Daily Album Ranking from August 25.
Staying on the Oricon charts, another boy group has been doing well on that particular chart too.
Yes, next up is ZEROBASEONE, who have scored a double crown on Japan’s Oricon charts.
ZEROBASEONE’s second Japanese EP, Return Love, topped Oricon’s Weekly Combined Albums Ranking, following its earlier No. 1 debut on the Weekly Albums Ranking from August 18 to 21.
Since its release, Return Love has continued to do well across Japan’s major music charts. The EP also topped Tower Records’ overall album chart across all stores, as well as Billboard Japan’s Top Album Sales chart. Returning with their first Japanese release in 10 months, ZEROBASEONE are continuing to strengthen their presence on the Japans music charts while expanding their influence in the market.

The lead track from CORTIS’ first mini album What You Want has surpassed 100 million cumulative streams roughly a year after its release on Spotify. The song has become the group’s fourth track to pass 100 million streams, following GO!, FaSHioN, and REDRED.
What You Want delivers a bold message about going after what you want without hesitation. With confidence and fearless energy, the song quickly won over fans. Its dynamic performance, featuring choreography on and around treadmills, also helped heighten the song’s powerful atmosphere.
