1. Local trekking guides and climbers say they've witnessed rapid losses of snow and ice in the Himalayas over the past several years. Scientists are still working to determine exactly what caused the disaster, but could climate change have played a role in making this disaster more severe?

2. Some experts warn that rapid construction of massive infrastructure across the Himalayas by India, China, and Nepal increased the region's vulnerability to a disaster like this. Do you think this could have amplified the impact of the flooding?

3. Chinese authorities have warned that a lake formed by the landslide is at high risk of bursting and sending more floodwater downstream. How serious is the threat of a secondary disaster?

4. As Himalayan glaciers continue to melt and extreme rainfall becomes more frequent, are catastrophic floods like this becoming the new normal across the region?
