"You only have OneShot" yeah sure bud.
OneShot, RPG Maker game from 2014, that had a remake in 2016 and later down the line in 2022 for consoles and 2024 for PC for some reason. I had this one in the radar after seeing the "Batter" from OFF in the PC, and turns out, it's onlyy in the 2014 version, and also because Nightmargin worked in the OFF Remake ost and wanted to see how the OS ost was. I also played this before, I bought the 2016 version because Steam didn't showed me this version, thanks steam.

You take control of Niko, a non-cat person whose only wish is to go back home while the residents of the world wants him to bring light to the world, but you can't choose both, it's one or the other, that's what I would like to say if it wasn't for the fact that this is a remake, the "OneShot" thing is nullified and there's a NG+ so the final choice doesn't matter anymore. Along the way you explore 3 areas, The Barrens, The Glen and the Refugee/City, each place with his own set of quests, the glen is the area that felt the less focused in these quests of finding and combining items, the other 2 areas have more, with the Barrens being the one I felt had the more slow approach to these, like, you go to Silver, then go for the acid bottle, then return to Silver and back to the Rowbot, despite that, I enjoyed the areas, they are visually good, speaking for the glen and the city to some extent.
Puzzle wise, these are combination oriented, a nice twist on the Brain teasers such as the ones seen in other RPG Maker Games like, idk, Ib, Ao Oni, The Witch's House, OFF, you name it, there are still puzzles with numbers and whatnot but not as much as these, as I said, most of the puzzles are more "Item Combination" oriented,
Music wise this is... ok I guess, there's not much that really stuck to me, the music is good don't get me wrong, but I personally didn't found most of the ost to land for me, Phosphor, On cat feet, the credits theme, the roomba, these are pretty much the only songs I liked, then again, this is just a personal thing.

Now for the additions, the steam ports, the 2 of them have this thing called NG+ in the form of "Solstice", said mode is a mode that last about, 1 hour and a half, nothing long, more linear, here is where a big game changer occurs, you can save the world and Niko, 2x1 deal, Now, I appreciate how they justified such action, being that the entity fucked up the code or some shit, but at the same time the choice of the original doesn't hold that much weight anymore. Now being completely honest, I would look how to have a second shot in the 2014 version ngl, but ALSO I would choose Niko over the decaying world, like, the world is constantly yelling at you how much the sun won't solve anything, If not for the cheevo I would have choose that ending, but also the solstice has these so no choice for me.

Changes between Steam Versions:
-You can walk diagonally as opposed to 4 directions like the Original RPG Maker game
-New motor, custom made according to the wiki
-More trinkets to find such as wallpapers, badges (Cheevos) and profiles which is essentially, lore
-You no longer need to find stuff in your PC since this version is practically a PC in itself, it was made for consoles after all
-the fast travel thingie is much better compared to the 2016 version

Overall this is another of these I liked, so much In fact that I bought it 2 times and played 3 runs of it, one in the 2016 version with his solstice ending, and 2 times in the 2022 version with his solstice ending and one round of "Memory" run which is just the game again with the entity in the form of Niko. another thing I liked about this is that the mugshots take inspiration from Cave Story, one of my all time fav indie games. I say give it a try if you haven't, it's only 3 or 4 hours long.
I may try to record the 2014 original at some point
