Hello friends. Today we are out and about walking in the English countryside on the outskirts of Cheltenham in Gloucestershire. We start the walk from St Peter's Church in the parish of Leckhampton with the aim of finishing the walk at a well known local landmark "The Devil's Chimney".
Hello friends. Today we are out and about walking in the English countryside on the outskirts of Cheltenham in Gloucestershire, England. We start the walk from St Peter's Church in the parish of Leckhampton with the aim of finishing the walk at a well known local landmark "The Devil's Chimney". Although this walk was intended to be fairly low key just to get the channel up & running again (Or walking as the case should be :)), it is fair to say that the walk did not go without incident! The first thing that happened was that around the 7 min mark my camera stopped recording (hence the jump cut!), I hadn't noticed and continued on my merry way. It was around the 20 min mark that I noticed that there was no recording icon on the little screen! Which meant I had to go back to the beginning and start all over again which I must say it did throw me off my game somewhat! The only blessing was that I preferred the starting walk up the church path the second time around but preferred the walk around the back and side of the church from the first recording (hence the jump cut by the church porch).
Second incident...(Hence the thumbnail) I had a little bit of trouble with a couple of cattle within a herd...it was totally my own fault as I should have turned around and headed back once I spotted them. However initially when I entered their field I did not see them straight away. Earlier on I had walked down through the fields from Leckhampton Hill to familiarise myself with the route and reach my target starting point, at that time all the fields were empty of cattle. As I approached them it appeared that they were just as weary of me as I was them as a few of them run off away from me. A few seconds later It was a couple of bulls that appeared to be not very happy to see me. They seemed to charge at me which you can hear but not entirely caught on camera as it was facing forwards as I was looking back to see how close they were getting to me. It might not have helped that I had a red back pack on (or is that just a myth?). My instinct told me not to run, which apparently was the right thing to do, going on my own research later that evening. As I approached the stile to the next adjourning field there were also bulls but I had already learnt a valuable lesson and gave them a wide berth. Does anyone else think that the second bull that came up to me at the stile looked really sad?
You may well notice that my breathing is laboured during this video, which is due to having to binaural microphones in fairly close proximity to my mouth, you can hear how loud my footsteps are, so you can imagine just how much the mics pick up breathing sounds. Also the gradients are a lot steeper then the camera depicts. I should also mention that during this walk and the subsequent 4 - 5 walks I was ill. It felt like a chest infection! I am all good now though :)
All in all I felt like this was quite a messy walk, which I think was mainly due starting the walk over again. The bulls incident did not really help either. But, not to worry though because next Sunday we are off to the seaside for a blissfully relaxing and slow walk :)
See if you can spot the OAAW logo during the walk, it is in there twice!
