We continue our vanlife journey through southern France and finally cross the border into Spain 🇫🇷➡️🇪🇸 via the Somport Tunnel in the Pyrenees.
Our last French stop is Oloron-Sainte-Marie, where we stay at a small motorhome aire right beside the river. With tight access, electric hook-ups, and a surprisingly peaceful night, it turns out to be a great place to pause before heading south. We take a walk into town, enjoy the scenery, and—most importantly—visit the Lindt chocolate factory, where things may have got a little out of hand 🍫😅.
After a calm night’s sleep, we check the weather and make the drive through the mountains and into Spain. On the Spanish side, we park up at Canfranc, home to the famous former international railway station turned luxury hotel. The aire here is excellent value, includes all services, and is surrounded by stunning mountain views with snow still visible on the peaks. We spend time walking through the pine forests, enjoying the quiet (we’re the only van there at one point!).
