A studio band directed by Ole Olsen play "Sadie Green (The Vamp Of New Orleans)". Henry Levine plays a nice Red Nichols-inspired solo, and makes his presence felt elsewhere on the side.
This is a very late Pathe acoustic recording, in this instance issued on their Perfect label. These acoustic Pathes were pantographically (mechanically) dubbed from large master cylinders. The process produced a harsh, thin sound with additional underlying rumble - something of a challenge when it comes to restoration!
Discographers have the bandleader's surname as "Olsen", and a report in the New York Clipper of May 1st, 1924 would suggest that this is the correct spelling.
