UNESCO, in collaboration with partners, has developed a Master Class Video Series on Disability Equality in the Media. The videos are based on UNESCO’s Practical Manual on Disability Equality in Media: Representation, Accessibility and Management.
The UNESCO Master Class Video Series is hosted by Ms. Sophie Morgan, journalist and disability rights activist. The introduction was recorded by Mr. Tawfik Jelassi, UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Communication and Information. UNESCO Goodwill Ambassadors, Her Royal Highness Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg and Ms Christiane Amanpour, journalist and television presenter, expressed their support for the UNESCO initiative. Ms. Jane Constance, UNESCO Artist for Peace, encouraged the media to produce accessible media content for audiences with disabilities. The video series was produced by UNESCO in collaboration with Beyond Borders Media.
UNESCO Master Class offers a series of videos with practical recommendations on how to:
- Promote inclusive and equitable editorial policies to ensure fair and balanced representation of persons with disabilities.
- Produce accessible media content in text, video, audio, and digital formats.
- Ensure diversity, equality, and inclusion of media professionals with disabilities in media organizations, including management and operations.
The UNESCO Master Class on Disability Equality in the Media is designed for all media professionals, from editors, reporters, technical teams and content producers to human resources officers and managers. It contributes to the promotion of international standards in line with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
