On October 13, 2022, at approximately 1:08 a.m., LVMPD Dispatch received a call of a
domestic disturbance in the 800 block of East Flamingo Road. Arriving officers contacted the
suspect vehicle near the intersection of University Center and Flamingo. The suspect, later
identified as 24-year-old Tyson Hampton, was armed with a firearm and fired at the officers.
The two officers discharged their duty weapons. An officer and a citizen were struck by gunfire
and were transported to a local hospital. The citizen is currently being treated. Officer Truong
Thai was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
Hampton fled the area and was later taken into custody by officers with the assistance of the K9
unit near Desert Inn and Eastern. He was transported to Clark County Detention Center after
receiving medical attention.
This is the 10th officer-involved shooting of 2022. Per LVMPD policy, the identity of the officers
involved will be released after 48 hours.
