UPDATE:
Our LVMPD Traffic Fatal Detail is urging anyone with information to come forward in this crash that claimed the lives of two young men in our community last week.
During a news conference this morning, Sgt. Rich Rundell from LVMPD Traffic's Fatal Detail was joined by the mother of one of the victims, Jannell Velasquez, to reveal new details about the crash and to urge the community to help solve this case.
We are deeply saddened to report a collision that occurred on July 5, 2024, at around 2:42 a.m. at the intersection of E. Charleston Blvd and N. Hollywood Blvd.
A GMC Sierra pickup truck, speeding southbound on N. Hollywood Blvd, ran a red light and struck a Honda CRV that was crossing the intersection on a green light. The impact was severe, causing the Honda CRV to come to rest on the southwest corner and the GMC Sierra on the west sidewalk.
Tragically, both the driver and passenger of the Honda CRV lost their lives at the scene. The driver of the GMC Sierra fled on foot and remains at large.
We urge anyone with information about this incident or the driver's whereabouts, identified as 20-year-old Luis Angel Equihua-Murillo, to come forward immediately. Our thoughts are with the families and friends of the victims during this incredibly difficult time.
Anyone with information is urged to call the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's Collision Investigation
Section at (702) 828-3595. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers of Nevada, Inc. at (702)385-5555, or visit
