I recently wrote a review of this trippy track called "What Did Mama Tell You?" by Cheerry Red, aka Nick Schupak, multi-instrumentalist frontman of New York's The Motor Tom, and from his sophomore full length "Radical Lifestyle Change" and I likened the aesthetic to a Harry Nilsson-esque cocktail, along with a collision of artists like T-Rex, Pere Ubu, Manfred Mann and even the 'Zappa side of Todd Rundgren. Anyway, that kind of off kilter sense, shapes made me think of some of the tracks I wrote and produced eons ago (2002).
One such track is OBSOLETE which I wrote with other tracks and planned on releasing as a fictional band called FUZZ45. I never did but it is a trip delving back. I literally haven't listened to some of this old garbage (um songs) in years. I created OBSOLETE on an old PortaStudio that recorded on Cassette- 4 tracks at once that could be ping ponged to create more tracks. Played the bass and slide guitar and used a BOSS DR550 to play the 'drums' LIVE as well as the electric piano tracks (LIVE as well) and layered in vocals.
The images are from one of my favorite off kilter movies, "Under the Silver Lake" written and directed by David Robert Mitchell. Hopefully this video won't get flagged for me using it.
