$Building a Water System for O3DE A water system is an essential module for graphic engines. To enable artists to build beautiful sceneries in O3DE with dynamic water surface and underwater effects, Huawei designed and implemented a water system as a component in O3DE. The water system contains several significant features: - For water surface: the wave shape is implemented with additive Gerstner wave, enabling artists to adjust the final wave shape by changing the parameters of base waves. - For reflection and refraction of water surface: ray tracing is used. - For direct lighting: its implementation is similar to those standard materials. - For water foam: uses the combination of noise textures with different sparsity and blends them based on wave heights - For underwater effects: blending and caustics are the two main parts; exponential blending is used in this water system; then, caustics is implemented with an analytic expression.
