The Lonely Sea and Sky by Dermot Bolger: Spoiler Free Individual Book Review #irishreadathon Lisa in Bookland 2024-03-25 | I just finished this wonderful book, The Lonely Sea and Sky by Dermot Bolger, which is coming-of-age tale about a young boy who has his first voyage on an Irish merchant ship during the Second World War. I enjoyed it so much I had to do an individual book review for it. The Ballad of Lord Edward and Citizen Small Book Review (Spoiler Free) - A New Favourite Lisa in Bookland 2023-03-27 | Here is an individual book review of what I think is the best book I’ve read this year so far – The Ballad of Lord Edward and Citizen Small by Neil Jordan. Such a brilliant book based on a true story about an unlikely friendship between Lord Edward Fitzgerald and escaped slave Tony Small, against the background of the American Revolution and the 1798 United Irishman rebellion. A great portrait of Irish society at the end of the 18th century, as well as memorable depictions of the Drury Lane theatre in London.
