Standing up and saying what we think is frightening. Sometimes showing how we really feel is petrifyingly numbing. Some things we can’t change but some things we can… The things we don’t say are often more meaningful than the things we do. But sometimes we need to find our own power. Sometimes you find courage in places you never thought possible. Sometimes you need to make a stand. We are stronger if we choose to open our mouths.

“The place I call Home, Inish Ledge – it’s fairly ordinary really, but it’s all I’ve ever known. It’s where I take refuge from everything life throws at me.
It’s a small place where we all know each other… Well, I mean do we ever really know those even closest to us? Can we ever really count on those around us?”
Participants were actively involved in key aspects of the film exploring the tools of filmmaking with Cinematographer Mike Hourigan, Acting Coach Emma Brennan and Drama Specialist Catherine Sheridan.
This included the initial concept of film, character creation, story development, scriptwriting, improvisation, shot selection & storyboarding, location scouting, character authenticity, techniques for Acting to Camera and ensemble movement work.

ALICE IN WONDERLAND
Alice is 12 and a half years of age and it bothers her to still be thought of as a child. Why do all these other people get to make the decisions, confuse her and boss her? After all, she is nearly thirteen. After a day of listening to others, Alice wakes that night in her bedroom to find it transformed and inhabited by a range of weird and wonderful characters. Characters that befriend her, thwart her and bother her, until she realises that she is the only one making sense. And that she is ready to leave childhood and become a teenager. Adapted for stage by Anna Galligan. Directed by Catherine Sheridan

By George Orwell, adapted by Peter Hall Directed by Catherine Sheridan
Be captivated as Roscommon Youth Theatre members play out Orwell’s mordant fable of a revolution betrayed. The action follows the rebellion of the downtrodden animals of Manor Farm, who are mistreated and abused by Farmer Jones. We witness the euphoria of comradeship after the human oppressors are driven off. The animals expel Jones and, under the idealistic guidance of Snowball the pig, form a collective society to run the renamed “Animal Farm”, sharing all the work and all the food. The pigs, smartest of the animals, band together to provide leadership to the other animals. They preach solidarity above all, and ,defence against their human enemies takes priority above food and freedom. We hear the teaching of Old Major that All Animals Are Created Equal. Slowly and subtly the pigs begin changing the rules to give themselves more power and privileges. Snowball’s Seven Commandments of animal equality are quickly replaced with the single edict, “All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.” Soon the rest of the animals are no better than they were under the humans–once again they are starving and near destitute. In Animal Farm, the ruling elite breed a culture of fear, in order to allow themselves unlimited bureaucratic freedom. It is hard to believe Animal Farm was written in 1945 as it is filled with insights that remain sadly current even today. Hold on to you seats as Roscommon County Youth Theatre bring the adaptation of this allegorical classic novel to life. Suitable for adults and young people 11+. School groups welcome. Animal Farm is also on the Junior Cycle Syllabus.RCYT presents If I Was In The GPO We Would Have WonRoscommonCounty YouthTheatre2016-04-15 | Roscommon County Youth Theatre return to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 1916 Rising with 'If I Was In The GPO We Would Have Won,' written and directed by our very own Catherine Simon.
As nationalist fever swells to a bloody climax with the revolution of Easter 1916 in Dublin. The conflict divides the city and her people, setting friends and family against each other. Bridie Reardon is a young woman passionate for her country. She, and a group of her ‘comrades’ want to fight for Ireland as much as any man, but down west they are told their place is at home. Bridie dreams of being in the middle of the hairraising experiences happening in Dublin. She could be a scout, a despatch-rider, a sniper, a raider… She could fight side by side with the men. As she struggles with conformity and the expectations of women in society at the time, will she comply or fight for what she believes in? If I was in the GPO, we would have Won, explores themes of courage, friendship, loyalty, responsibility, identity, integrity and femininity. Prepare to be transported in time and brought on a journey confronting the divisions of the past and challenging our assumptions to re imagine our futures through the eyes of meaningful characters. If I was in the GPO, we would have Won is a poignant, fictitious story set against the backdrop of the 1916 Rising that deals with the ordinary people of that time.

And not just any funeral either…the funeral of an older girl from school. This comedic piece has a strong emotional heart and a huge theatrical reveal in the final scene as we witness the youths deal with guilt, forgiveness, obsession and reconciliation.
