The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has failed to protect the public from serious risks that threaten millions of people with the *very credible*, in fact, highly likely possibilities of Chernobyl-sized disasters. In this testimony from the March 9, 2021, hearing, Stuart Scot and Paul Blanch reveal the cover-up and the well-known fact that the NRC is a #CaptiveRegulator, protecting the industry they are supposed to be regulating. Part 2 of this video is at youtu.be/H_msZL5jSXs

First, so-called 'spent nuclear fuel', with 80% or so of their original radioactive energy still in them, are kept in open 'cooling ponds' of water where they are exposed to a possible terrorist attack Then after a few years they are transferred to shockingly insufficient canisters, manufactured by Holtec Industries, posing a clear and present danger from flood, earthquake, terrorist or enemy attack, at least the ones that lie on a small corner of Fort Pendleton, along the Pacific Coast Highway, near a very popular beach and surf spot.

The NRC gladly grants exemptions from existing safely rules and eases existing regulations at every request of the Nuclear Industry. At the same time, they virtually refusing to even consider petitions for greater scrutiny or tighter safety standards or answer questions from the public.

In this video excerpted from the proceedings of a public meeting of the NRC's Petition Review Board, Charles Langley defends #PublicWatchdogs' petition that the NRC rejected without even consideration on its merits, claiming that failure of any of these insubstantial Holtec Industries canisters is a non-credible event. The PRB now refuses to even define their use of the term 'not credible'!

Paul Blanch and Stuart Scott drill down deeper into the NRC's immoral complicity with the nuclear waste management business, operating to ensure the maximum profit for the supposedly regulated industry, while attempting to propagate the outright lie that it operates for the 'Protection of the Public and the Environment', which is the motto they sport misleadingly in many places.
