We present this video as a gift of gratitude to the sentiment it conveys, and to you, our audience, for understanding its deep meaning. It's not to raise money for Africa, it's to raise your commitment to making change happen to avert a climate and ecological disaster toward which we are heading, threatening all of humanity, and dragging all of life over the cliff with us.

About 35 years ago, a song written by Lionel Ritchie and Michael Jackson brought together a huge array of musical talent to record the We Are the World as a fundraiser for children in Africa. There are technically better videos than this one which we chose to share shows how old some of the key singers were in 2018, and who has passed on.
The 're-purposing' is simply to say that, indeed, 'we' ARE the world, at least we are its keepers or destroyers. That is the choice we collectively have to make. Currently the choice is being made for us by those who run the infinite growth economic system, not the only one possible, but the one that benefits the banks and the wealthy the most. Their monopoly over our minds in economic terms is nearly total, since for the past hundred years all other economic models have been eliminated from the economics departments of nearly all business schools.
Herman Daly's Ecological Economics would start to save the planet, and there are ways we could move to it. Kate Raworth's 'Doughnut Economics' is a variant of Ecological Economics with a twist.
But unseating the dominance of 'NeoClassical Economics' (growth economics) can be accomplished simply by enough people dumping their consumerist habits. Conceptually simple, but hard to do for those who have become accustomed to buying a lot of stuff, flying all over the place, two houses, etc.
Live simply. What you *need* to live is small. What you *want* is boundless, since you are advertised at everywhere you turn.
