There's an easy cheesy way to get the Piece of Heart from the mad scientist guy at the Hylia Laboratory. Normally you would need to dive down and touch the bottom of his reservoir after you acquire the Gold Scale.
If you sink to the bottom with the Iron Boots, he usually doesn't count that. But if you use the Iron Boots to land on the bottom, then use your Hookshot on the wooden crate, you can pause and switch to your regular Boots just after the Hookshot starts to extend.
When the Hookshot catches the crate, you'll be wearing your work uniform shoes, and this will count as Link "diving" to the bottom of the reservoir. The Mad Scientist will give you the Heart Piece for this!
