CW / TW: This video covers the assassination of Shinzo Abe, the former Prime Minister of Japan. It also talks about homemade v 3D printed guns. Video briefly covers gun control.
The world was shocked when Shinzo Abe was assassinated today (Jan 8th in the USA). Details are emerging that the assassin used a homemade zip / pipe gun in the attack.
However a lot of knee-jerk sources are jumping on this to say it was done with a 3D printed gun. While the investigation is ongoing, I can't see any 3D printed parts in any of the publicly available pictures. The description are of a gun made with wood and pipes, along with an electronic firing system. The suspect's home was raided and there were more homemade zip guns found there. It's clear that the suspect took considerable effort to make these illegal (in Japan) pipe guns.
I wanted to put this out because their was a lot of misinformation about this attack, and I do not want the public to attack 3D printers or use this to restrict the rights of 3D printing. It's difficult to 3D print a working firearm.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU ATTEMPT TO MAKE A ZIP GUN!
They are dangerous & can be illegal in your location. Nor should you 3D print a gun for the same reasons!
