The Northrop YF-17, sometimes nicknamed Cobra, was a prototype jet fighter produced by Northrop in response to the US Air Force's Lightweight Fighter program. It was intended as a smaller, less costly alternative to the larger fighter jets of the time.

The YF-17 lost to the General Dynamics YF-16, but the design would serve as the base of the F-18 Hornet.
