Parents thought the Wii U gamepad was an add-on, not a whole new console. The reveal focused on the controller, the ads didn’t clarify the box, and confusion snowballed into weak sales and empty shelves.

Which is tragic, because the games were SO GOOD. Mario Kart 8, Splatoon, Smash…an elite lineup trapped on a system most people didn’t understand.
