NINJA GAIDEN 2 Black Playlist: youtube.com/playlist?list=PLfI6IYca_kvOowOVh1rM5c2qVJvZTeVYx
This is a pretty fun chapter. They did a good job mixing up the encounters, and the big fight in the church (?) is one of my favorites in the game. In the original NG2, they had a bunch of black spider ninjas in there that they have now replaced with tac ninjas, and while they're not as deadly, they are just as annoying. You have to always be moving until you thin the herd a bit, because if you're trying ground combos for more than a second, chances are they're going to interrupt you with machine gun fire and chip away at your health or keep you in block-stun. That can get frustrating. The tonfas are especially fun to use in this area though.
And I actually hadn't realized it before, but in Sigma 2, the combat flow is even better with the tonfas because using the bow instead of the shurikens after launching yourself into the air lets you land in a running state, meaning you can immediately use the run + X or Y attack (which can be Heavenly Justice canceled). Using the shurikens instead would just drop Ryu down and leave you with nothing but a forward + X to keep the momentum going. It's a small change, but a great one.
A not so great change would be the clock tower section that leads to Zedonius. In the original game, each of the big gears was loaded with enemies for you to fight, making for an unforgettable setpiece. In Sigma, they just put a few tac ninjas at the very start and left the rest of the area empty. That's just sad.
For Zedonius, I ended up using ninpo to clear out the gajas. I'd rather not use ninpo ever, but I just didn't have time to deal with them while trying to not take any damage. That would make this fight far more difficult. Zedonius on his own isn't a problem, and they made him even easier in Sigma. His grab used to be very fast, but now you have an eternity to react to it. He's always open for a combo after he whiffs the grab and flying stomp, and you can counter-attack the first hit of his punch and kick combos, so you can burn through his health very quickly with the right weapon. I love using the Falcon Talons on him, especially.
