ARTIST STATEMENT
Nights on B Street
Once, not too long ago, there was a community in a city. We’ll call this community B Street since it was margined by A Street to the north and C Street to the south and we’ll call the city Largetown, as it was a very large town.
Mostly overlooked and under-represented, B Street had evolved between the lines into an interesting, dynamic and somewhat risky neighborhood. It provided shelter for lovers and shelter for those with no love to spare. To be sure, B Street had its ins and outs but it was as good a place as any to begin living large.
The souls who found their way here were not the most upstanding bunch, but on the other hand, they were diverse and they tolerated each other reasonably well. If “all the world is a stage” and all of us are players on it, then the encounters between these original characters were sometimes marvels of stage business. All sorts of things could happen on B Street and often did. So, it was better to approach the street in your own shoes and best to play your own hand.
It was a time when everyone and everything always seemed to be coming and going. It was a space where the Cheshire Cat hung its grin for a while. And, in this curious habitat if you listen long enough, you might hear the breath of possibilities…
