Investor reaction was mixed to the prospect of a government buyout of NexG Bhd's core unit, with the stock topping Bursa Malaysia's most active list through to the close despite ending the day lower.

More than 109 million NexG shares changed hands, although the counter reversed earlier gains to close three per cent lower at 32 sen.

Its associate NexG Bina Bhd also saw heavy trading, briefly jumping 16.7 per cent before closing unchanged at three sen.

The heavy trading followed NexG's confirmation that the government had asked the company to provide an indicative price for Datasonic Technologies Sdn Bhd (DTSB).

NexG said it had internally valued DTSB at RM7.5 billion, based on its future earnings and cash flows.

However, the figure is only an internal assessment and not an agreed price or firm offer.

DTSB is NexG's main business and holds major government contracts for passports, MyKad and other identity-related.
