AND a Korean research team has made remarkable advances in predicting landslides.

The Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources has developed the technology to predict the origins of landslides.
While previous technology tracked soil movement, this one pinpoints where mountains will collapse due to heavy rain.
The research team explains that this new technology is possible by analyzing underground data.
"We construct data by monitoring changes in mountainous regions over the years using aerial and satellite photographs. We found the accuracy of the results to be about 90% correct through a mock trial of past landslides."
The technology predicts landslide sites by calculating hourly changes underground in response to precipitation.
The research team increased accuracy by dividing the map into a grid with 25-meter intervals.
This technology can also be utilized to prevent landslides and minimize damage in military capacities.
"We will build a disaster response system by applying this technology to GOP areas by this year, securing the golden time for the evacuation of military personnel and facility safety measures."
The research team plans to expand this cooperation from the army to various local governments.
