The work is narrated by award-winning director Rita Coburn, producer of Maya Angelou’s Oprah Radio programme and co-director of the Peabody-winning Maya Angelou: And Still I Rise. She is joined by soprano Angela Brown, praised by The New York Times for her Metropolitan Opera Aida debut, mezzo Christie Dashiell, whose album Time All Mine achieved Billboard success, and tenor Issachah Savage, acclaimed for major roles with leading opera companies.
On our affiliated labels, Capriccio presents the world premiere recording of Leokadiya Kashperova’s Piano Concerto Op. 2 and Symphony Op. 4. Stravinsky’s piano teacher and a student of Anton Rubinstein, Kashperova composed in a deeply Romantic Russian idiom, her works demonstrating mature skill despite remaining overshadowed by male contemporaries. Pianist Oliver Triendl—a champion of neglected repertoire—and the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin conducted by Anna Skryleva deliver these impressive scores. Meanwhile, Grand Piano offers the fourth and final volume of José Antonio Bottiroli’s complete piano works, presented by Fabio Banegas (Bottiroli’s protégé and cataloguer), along with the Antón & Maite Piano Duo, Duo Du Rêve and the Brno Philharmonic under Francisco Varela, and others. This programme highlights Bottiroli’s paraphrases, reworkings, and Argentine folk-inspired short forms infused with intimacy and diverse moods.
