New FAA Update Dedicated FRIA Map!
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has a new (July 2024) dedicated FRIA (FAA Recognized Identification Area) interactive map that you can now access.
This map is a useful tool to see the extent of the FAA's FRIAs, which are assigned to various Community Based Organizations like the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) and various educational organizations.
The key benefit of a FRIA is that recreational radio control model aircraft do not need to use remote ID to fly within the FRIA. Remote ID (identification) is required by the FAA, as of March 16, 2024, for all unmanned model aircraft that weigh over 250 grams, or around 8.8 ounces.
Again, by flying your RC model iin a FRIA, you do not require a remote ID system.
