Our live cover of "New Donk City" from Super Mario Odyssey, originally composed by Koji Kondo. This arrangement by Max Boiko. Recorded live at Black Cat LES in New York City on March 1, 2020.

Okay, what better place in the world to perform a cover of this song than the city which the track's world was inspired by? That's right, New York City, baby! When Max proposed this song to be played at the session, there was absolutely no doubt in our minds that this would be perfect for the session. With it's subtle New Orleans street beat mixed with swing vibe, combined with the sound of a New York City big band, we reduced the most essential components of this tune to fit our band. Super Mario Odyssey, in general, is such a revolutionary game for furthering the tradition of jazz in Mario games, and taking it to the next level by including a REAL LIVE big band. - Not to mention the main theme is an old-school-style swing number? We can't get enough of it! So grab your coat, and grab your hat (bonus points for reference), and dive right in head-first to the bustling sea of NYC with this as your soundtrack! Great solos from Max, Pat, and Ben on accordion, with a stellar rhythm section performance including our very own NYC Mario himself, Jake Chapman!
