IEEE SMC 2025 BR41N.IO Hackathon - Third Place Winner - Programming & Arts
Can a Brain-Computer Interface automatically select the perfect music for your current mental state? Team 55 answered this question at the BR41N.IO Hackathon by developing NeuroTune, a real-time neurotechnology application that connects brain activity directly to Spotify playlists.
Built within just 24 hours, NeuroTune demonstrates how quickly developers can move from idea to working prototype using the Unicorn Hybrid Black EEG headset. Instead of spending valuable hackathon time on EEG hardware integration, signal acquisition, artifact handling, or low-level data streaming, the team was able to focus on application development, user experience, and brain-state classification.
The system acquires EEG data in real time from the Unicorn Hybrid Black, processes the signals using Python, calculates EEG bandpower features, and identifies mental states such as focus, relaxation, and excitement. Based on the detected brain state, the application automatically communicates with the Spotify API and selects a matching playlist, creating a seamless connection between brain activity and music.
This project highlights why researchers, students, developers, startups, and Brain-Computer Interface innovators use Unicorn Hybrid Black for rapid prototyping. The platform provides access to real-time EEG data, high-quality signal acquisition, APIs, development tools, and a complete software ecosystem, allowing teams to focus on innovation rather than EEG infrastructure.
The result is a compelling example of a real-time Brain-Computer Interface application developed during a BR41N.IO Hackathon. NeuroTune demonstrates how EEG, machine learning, neurotechnology, and consumer applications can be combined to create personalized experiences that adapt to the user's cognitive and emotional state.
Projects like this show that the Unicorn Hybrid Black is more than an EEG headset. It is a complete Brain-Computer Interface platform that enables developers to build neurofeedback applications, brain-controlled software, machine learning systems, assistive technologies, games, robotics, and real-time BCI applications within days—or even hours.
Learn more about the Unicorn Hybrid Black EEG headset and discover how teams at BR41N.IO transform ideas into working Brain-Computer Interface applications in just 24 hours.
