We're going LIVE tonight at 9:30 EDT and Emily and I ARE IN for A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas! 🔥 The creatives absolutely nailed this book for longtime ACOTAR fans AND anyone just now entering Prythian, and chapters 15 through 19 are where the tension between Nesta and Cassian stops being something either of them can pretend isn't there.
Here's what we're reacting to TONIGHT:
Chapter 15: Nesta feels something dark watching her from the seventh level of the library. Gwyn finds her and confirms other priestesses have felt the same dark presence. Gwyn introduces Nesta to an Invoking Stone, a relic that channels the power of the Mother for healing and protection. Then at training, Cassian opens up about his past, his mother, and what happened when he was strong enough to go back for her. He looks Nesta in the eye and tells her that her power is a song he has waited a long time to hear. Nesta cannot sleep that night.
Chapter 16: Cassian also cannot sleep. Three times. We will say no more about that. Back at training, Nesta asks about the Blood Rite, the brutal Illyrian tradition where warriors are dropped into the mountains with no powers, no wings, and no way out. Survive and reach the sacred peak of Ramiel. Only a handful have managed it in 500 years. Cassian, Rhys, and Azriel are three of them. Then Nesta asks Cassian a question that changes everything: would he train the priestesses if she could get them to show up?
Chapter 17: Nesta puts up a sign-up sheet for the priestesses. Nobody signs. Cassian teaches her how to throw a proper punch. Then Elain arrives in the library to check on her sister and it does not go well. Old wounds open fast. Nesta reminds Elain of exactly what she did during Elain's darkest days and Elain fires back. These two sisters have been circling this fight for a long time and it finally lands.
Chapter 18: Nesta makes it down 1,000 steps before turning back. Progress. Cassian is waiting at the top. She shuts down every attempt he makes to talk about Elain. So instead he tells her about his own journey. About going back to find his mother when he was finally strong enough. About what he found when he got there, and what he and Rhys and Azriel did after. Nesta listens. Something shifts between them.
Chapter 19: Nesta kisses Cassian. He kisses her back. Hard. Things escalate quickly and Cassian has a very embarrassing moment. Nesta misreads his reaction as regret, says something razor sharp, and walks away. The next morning Azriel has to come collect them both for the river house. These two are going to be the death of us.
Trauma, tension, and two people who are absolutely not fine. ALL in five chapters. WE ARE READY!
