Chapter 45: Cassian starts teaching Valkyrie techniques and asks Nesta a simple question: what would you name a sword? She won't answer, so she flips it on him and gets the truth. The blacksmith returned the three blades she helped forge, they're a brand new Dread Trove, and the Inner Circle took a VOTE on whether to even tell her. Nesta gets so angry she does the impossible. All 10,000 steps. Down. And straight into Velaris.
Chapter 46: The river house confrontation. Nesta asks Feyre if anyone in that room actually respects her when not one of them has told her the truth: the baby she's carrying will likely kill her. The secret is out, the room goes nuclear, and Rhys gives Cassian an order I won't repeat here. Was Nesta cruel, or was she the only one honest enough to say it? Emily and I WILL be arguing about this one.
Chapter 47: Cassian gets Nesta out of the city and they camp for the night. Feyre reaches out to Cassian mind to mind, and her take might surprise you. She's angry, but not at Nesta. Nesta was the only one who told her, even if she did it in anger. Cassian's plan for what comes next: a hike.
Chapter 48: The hike begins, and it is not about cardio. One offhand comment from Cassian about falling off the mountain, and the look in Nesta's eyes tells him everything. This is where the book stops pulling punches.
Chapter 49: Two more days of trekking in near silence. Nesta pushes herself until her body gives out. And when they finally reach the lake, the wall she has been holding up for the entire series finally cracks.
Chapter 50: Everything comes pouring out. Her father. The guilt. Why she can't stand the sound of a crackling fire. Cassian doesn't try to fix her. He tells her the truth: she can come back from this if she's willing to fight for it. The most important conversation in the book so far.
