Nature and plastics inspire breakthrough in soft sustainable materials  @NorthwesternU

Samuel I. Stupp's laboratory has developed new sustainable bio-inspired materials with ferroelectric and piezoelectric properties, which could be used in low power electronics, information storage, medical implants or devices, energy storage and wearable technology. This animation shows a future vision of assemblies of molecules formed by peptides and miniature molecular segments present in a plastic material to create ferroelectric structures that switch polarity to store digital information or signal neurons.
