NOGALES, Sonora — Volunteers are searching for Nancy Guthrie in Mexico after receiving an anonymous tip claiming her remains are in an area close to the border with Arizona.

The Buscando Corazones collective says it regularly receives anonymous tips in missing persons cases and has helped locate the remains of dozens of people in the Nogales region over time.

Nancy Guthrie’s remains are buried in a stream in an area known as Mariposa. The stream is near the Mariposa Port of Entry at the Mexico-Arizona border.

Ortiz said she did not know who Nancy Guthrie was when she received the tip, so she looked her up. She said that in Mexico, searchers look for all missing people the same way, regardless of status.

Volunteers have not yet found any evidence of Nancy’s “grave” or her whereabouts.
