The case began publicly on June 30, when investigators executing a search warrant at the Siders residence in Hamden discovered 16 children. Authorities alleged the children were living in extremely unsanitary conditions, including a room contaminated with human feces. Gary Siders Jr., Elizabeth Siders, Gary Siders Sr. and Christina Siders were arrested.
